My Brother Robert. I was very saddened to hear the news of my dear Brother Robert's passing. Knowing Robert as well as I did, I know he lived his life vicariously and without abandon. From his simple upbringings in Cape Breton ... to his time in Ontario (waiting as a hitch hiker at one spot under a highway bridge near Timmons for 23 hours to be picked up) ... to working in the tough - but rewarding - oil patch ... to raising and providing for his wonderful family ... this was the Brother I knew and loved. Yes, Robert could be difficult at times. But deep down inside there was a heart of gold. He was a very supportive sibling and wonderful friend. I will miss him dearly. Us MacLeans tend to work hard and play hard - and my Brother Robert was the epitome of that lifestyle. It seems our family has a tendency to wear out our bodies well before their time. But that is the catch-22 that life provides us isn't it ... live safe and long or live fun and take your chances. Well we all know what path Robert chose. Robert had been very close to me these past few years with texting and phone calls and always offering me his unwavering and unconditional support. My visits to Alberta were never frequent enough, but they will provide me with fond memories I will cherish forever. I always felt safety when in Robert's presence - as he was a great protector - in both stature and in steadfastness of conviction. I looked up to my Big Brother probably more than he ever realized. Losing the people we care about is never easy. Robert lived life to the fullest and touched all of us in his own unique way - and for that we can all give thanks. Goodbye dear Brother ... you will be in my heart forever.
