Obituary of Lorna Offerson

Lorna Offerson, a long time resident of Dawson Creek, BC, passed away on Thursday, August 16, 2018 in Dawson Creek, BC, at the age of 71 years. Lorna was born December 19, 1946 in Humboldt, SK to Roman and Mary Merwin. She has one sister and six brothers. When she was young, the family moved to Dawson Creek. She met Roy Offerson in 1967 and had three children, Loretta, Dale and Darryl. Lorna, was also known to some as: Auntie, Gran or Granny. Granny was the most caring and selfless person, she never wanted anything for herself. Lorna was happiest to be around family, if she couldnt be around you, she would be just as happy talking on the phone. The most important thing to Granny was family. She never missed a family event or even the little family get togethers. Sometimes she would catch wind of the family doing something so she would phone you and be like what about your granny?. At times she would even have two or three of us coming to pick her up to better her odds of not being forgotten. She loved her grandkids and great-grandkids so much and just wanted to be around them every day. At times there would be more than one kid that had an activity in a day, and Granny would try and make each of them. In the summer she would go from the soccer fields to the baseball fields to the gymnastics centre; then in the winter she would be between the hockey rink for figure skating, the curling rink and dance studio. She would sit and watch the kids, never taking her eyes off them and always had the biggest smile on her face. Granny would even go along for shopping trips with everyone. Anytime someone would babysit, Granny would be right there with her overnight bag ready to help and of course, play. The kids would have her on a chair, doing her make-up, Granny having many different colors all over the place. She wore it proudly while they baked and played for the rest of the night and would wait until the kids fell asleep to wash it off so she wouldnt hurt their feelings. Granny was also well traveled, going on an Alaskan cruise and to Hawaii with her sister Rosella, as well as going to Mexico for her granddaughter, Shilos wedding. She even did a road trip to Liard Hot Springs with her brother Archie and his family. She went with Gramps in his big work truck and stayed in the sleeper for a year while they went across Canada. Granny also loved camping. Gramps would set up the motorhome for her and even bring out her flower pots so it would look like she had been living out there for years. Granny got to do and see lots but what made it all so special for her, was that she did it all with her family. It didnt take much to make her happy; a phone call, a card, a visit or even a kiss before saying goodnight. She lived to make our lives better and was proud of her family. A funeral service was held on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at 1:00 pm from Reynars Chapel. Pauline Haycock officiated. Lorna was laid to rest, with her two sons, in the Brookside Cemetery.
