Obituary of Lynden Scott Beattie

Lynden Beattie 1991-2018 Lynden Scott Beattie, born December 8, 1991, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2018. Lynden was the first born son to Bobby and Pam Beattie. Lynden joins his dad in heaven, who sadly predeceased him in May of 2014. Lynden grew up in Dawson Creek, and lived for a few years in Prince George after graduation before returning home to be with his family. Brother Kaden, arrived in March of 1995 and was followed by brother Brett in May of 2000. By that time, Lynden had mastered his vocabulary and was showing signs of strong reading comprehension. Upon testing, it was discovered that he was far beyond his years and may need to be more challenged. Starting with a simple freshwater set up at age 10, Lynden evolved his fish keeping skills to a very high level. By the time he left for UNBC, Lynden had an enviable salt water tank system, including beautiful coral reefs and breeding areas for his fish babies. Lynden's love of nature had our household sounding, and probably smelling, more like a zoo. At one time, the pet count included a dog, two cats, a tarantula, a bearded dragon, crickets for said dragon, a budgie and of course, multiple fish tanks. Lynden was the primary caregiver for our little menagerie and left strict (often written) instructions, should a 'creature sitter' be required. Throughout his life, Lynden showed compassion and kindness to all things. Once, on our arrival home, Lynden found a dragonfly that was literally broken in two. He gingerly picked it up, carried it into the house, found some super glue then started to glue it together!! To our surprise, well more to Mom's surprise (Lynden certainly knew what was going to happen), that dragon fly flew away. It was so amazing...and so Lynden. The family had an opportunity to travel to Hawaii and Lynden's love of coral reef was experienced firsthand as he showed us what the heck 'that' was, and taught us what 'that' did... and we still remember what a 'crown of thorns' is and how destructive it can be to the ocean's floor. That same trip, Lynden and his Mom got to swim with dolphins in their natural environment. Of course, Mom had no idea they were even there until Lynden said, "just put your ears under the water and listen....they're close". And they were...first a family of four, then a whole pod of them. Such a beautiful experience to be treasured forever...just like Lynden. Lynden's woodwork in high school earned him two university scholarships, and a compliment from the family expert in the trade, Grandpa Nelson. High school seemed successful for Lynden, as he graduated with honours and found another skill, photography. Lynden excelled in photography, selling many of his pictures locally. He enjoyed experimenting with lenses, and being able to see nature and his reefs in higher definition . His artistic talents continued to grow in later years to include drawing and some beadwork. Although Lynden seemed complete when he was within nature or photographing it, he struggled for years to find even some kind of happiness. Lynden sought many avenues of treatment for his depression, and some seemed to work...but each only for a little while. Unfortunately, Lynden's battle with mental health went on and his struggle to find peace continued, no matter how hard he tried. Lynden will always be remembered for his kind soul and his gentle nature. We will cherish our time with him, hope he has found peace and happiness, and are somewhat comforted to know he is with his dad in heaven . A memorial service was held September 26, 2018 at the Grace Lutheran Church, officiated by Pastor Cameron Eggie. Expressions of sympathy may be made by donation to the SPCA, South Peace Branch, 637 - 114 Avenue, Dawson Creek, British Columbia V1G 3A1.
