Obituary of Olaf Hegge

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our husband, father and grandfather, Olaf Hegge, a long-time resident of Dawson Creek, BC. Olaf passed away on Monday, September 17, 2018 in Dawson Creek at the age of 62 years. Olaf Hegge was born on January 31, 1956 in Hythe, Alberta at a whopping 12 pounds and was the largest baby ever born in Hythe at that time. Soon after Olafs birth, the Hegge family moved from Hythe to Dawson Creek where Olaf did his schooling. Olaf and Arla met in high school and were married in 1976. Their first child Clayton was born in 1978 and in 1983 their daughter, Ashley, was born and their family was complete. Olaf was first and foremost a family man. His family was always his number one priority. Olafs great love and generosity of spirit encompassed not only his family, but his many friends as well. One of the special joys of his life was his four wonderful grandchildren. His face would light up whenever they were around. He worked at the Dawson Co-Op through high school, and from there went to Northwest Wood Preservers. In January of 1979, Olaf left the mill to join his dad and brother, John, in creating Hegge Construction, where he worked until retiring in December 2015. Olaf was very respected in the business community. Olaf was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and sledding. He also enjoyed playing broomball for many years. He was a great defenseman, team captain, and won many MVP trophies. He volunteered at the Arras fire hall for many years and was always there when needed. Olaf greatly enjoyed passing on his wisdom to the younger generation and earned their respect and love without even trying. Olaf enjoyed life to the fullest. He lived every moment of every day, and even though hes gone, he will never be forgotten. It was a life well lived. Olaf is survived by his loving wife of 42 years; Arla, Children; Clayton (Lynsey) and Ashley (Kevin) Grandchildren; Caylie, Ryan, Avery and Morgan Siblings; Magna, Roar (Gaylene) and John (Dorinda), Father-in-law Jack Dilworth, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Olaf was predeceased by his parents, Rolf and Anne, and his mother-in-law Eunice Dilworth. A Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at 1:00 PM at the Bethel Pentecostal Church in Dawson Creek. Reverend Marilyn Carroll officiated. Interment will be held at a later date. For friends so wishing, donations may be made in memory of Olaf the BC Wildlife Federation, Attn: Development Coordinator, #101-9706 188 Street, Surrey, BC V4N 3M2.
