Obituary of Margaret "Marg" Frederickson

Margaret Frederickson 1938 - 2018 Margaret (Marg) Frederickson, a long-time resident of Dawson Creek, BC, passed away on September 30, 2018. Marg leaves behind her children Betty (Douglas) Kirtzinger and Warren (Karen) Frederickson; grandchildren Cynthia, Sabrina, and Hunter Kirtzinger, and Griffin Frederickson; sisters Helen (Jake) Giesbrecht and Myrna Van De Voorde; sisters-in-law Irene Isaak, and Darlene Isaak, brother-in-law Doug (Judy) Frederickson, many nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by parents George and Anna Isaak, husband Earle, sister Anita (Gordy) Todd, brother Don Isaak, brother Eldon Isaak, sister Betty (Dave) Peters and brothers-in-law Louie Van De Voorde, Ernie Frederickson, and Ken (Vera) Frederickson. She was born in 1938, the sixth of seven children, to George and Anna Isaak, on a farm in Drake, Saskatchewan. In 1946, the family moved to Langley, BC where they lived for 15 years. Marg found a passion for softball, painting, and finished her schooling there. Marg, her parents and younger sister followed her two brothers to the Dawson Creek area in 1961. She got a job in Kresge's General Store and then at the Toronto Dominion Bank. She joined a softball team in Kilkerran and met her future husband Ronald (Earle) there. They were married in 1963 and settled down on their mixed farm in the community of Kilkerran. They kept busy with land clearing, growing hay, grain and raising livestock. Most evenings they had company; many pots of coffee were enjoyed with their friends. The small house would ring with laughter from stories, jokes or card games. Betty joined them in 1964 and Warren in 1966. In Marg's spare time, mostly winter evenings, she loved to work on puzzles and paint. She attended two painting classes at the local college and some painting workshops. Marg and some of the ladies in the community who had taken the classes together started an art group in Kilkerran. The ladies stayed together for over twenty years and helped each other improve their craft. After the Kilkerran art group quit Marg joined the South Peace Art Society and became a lifetime member. Marg and Earle were captivated by the beauty of the area where they chose to live. They took many drives to their north fields to check the crops, changing seasonal colors and whatever wildlife they might see that day. Marg painted many local scenes and enjoyed the fact that she could move a spruce bluff, barn or other landmark to another area if she wanted to put it there on her canvas. Earle and the kids were her sounding board when she needed help with a painting she was working on. Marg enjoyed gardening and more than one visitor asked, "What are you doing with all those coffee cups in your garden?" She never had a green thumb but was always open to try new ways of growing the garden and greenhouse. Marg and Earle were both happy when the grandchildren came and like all grandparents, they enjoyed the time they had with the little ones. There are many fond memories and stories that are told about Marg, most bring laughter and smiles to the faces of the people telling and hearing them. There will be no funeral service at Marg's request. A get together in honor of Marg will take place on October 13, 2013 from 2-4pm at Crescent Park Elementary School, 9300 17 Street, Dawson Creek. Expressions of sympathy may be made by donation to the Rotary Manor Care Facility, 1121-90 Avenue, Dawson Creek, British Columbia V1G 5A3.
