Obituary of Mart Anderson

A long-time resident of Dawson Creek, Mart passed away peacefully at Rotary Manor at the age of 89 years. Mart was born near Rolla on August 27, 1929, the third child to Ted and Sophie Anderson. His siblings were Sid, Lois, Karol, John, Mae and Ethel. Early life was on a homestead at Coleman Creek NE of Rolla. Always a hard worker, Mart had many interesting positions. He worked on harvesting crews, worked at the milk dairy near their home on 106 Avenue. During the summers of 1947, 48, and 49, he worked at a 4-man gold mine near mile 719 of the Alaska highway. He also hauled jet fuel to Whitehorse and Fort Nelson for Trail Transport. Mart began his career as a heavy duty mechanic with his brother, Johnny, at Inland Motors. A big turning point, was when he co-started a company with Ray Sluggett, called Dawson Gear Train, which later merged to become Gear-O-Rama. Mart was survived by his wife, Edith, sons Brent, Blake, and Brian, daughter Lana, daughters-in-law Jaqui and Jane, son-in-law, Dean, and by his grandchildren Kristin (Gavin), Nichole (Justin), Terrilyn, Dylan, Lauren (Adam), Kaitlyn, and Adam as well as great grandchildren Keanon, Elena, Arlow, Ethan, Olivia, and Alexander. Mart loved fishing and hunting. Attending Grace Lutheran church and supporting the congregation were always priorities for Mart. Most of all, Mart loved his wife, his family, friends, and coffee. Mart and Edith recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. The family would like to thank the staff at Rotary Manor for providing excellent care over the past two years. A memorial service was held on October 13, 2018 at Grace Lutheran Church, officiated by Pastor Terry Martin. Inurnment followed at the Rolla Cemetery.
