Obituary of Eddie Dahlen

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Eddie Dahlen on October 7, 2018 at the age of 80 years. Eddie passed away peacefully with his cousin and lifelong friend Wayne Dahlen, as well as his dear friend Janice Emde at his side. Eddie was born in Dawson Creek on June 28, 1938 to parents Ed and Dot Dahlen. He lived on his family's homestead in North Rolla with his parents and younger brother Merle until his teen years. His fond memories of the North Rolla area never faded, and he loved to tell stories of horseback riding and hunting for as long as anyone would listen. Eddie went on to live and work in Dawson Creek and the surrounding area the remainder of his life and only left for brief vacations for his entire 80 years. In 1961 Eddie married Katherine Cassidy and they had three children: Gord, Lena, and Kathy. He was an excellent parts-man for the Ford dealers in town as well as a salesman for Peacelander Realty for 30 years. His favourite Kerry Regan song, which he loved to sing, truly embodied his feelings about his "Peace River Home." As our family dealt with the sad and somewhat sudden departure of Eddie, we were comforted by the many condolences offered by his numerous friends and family members, all describing his kindness, easy smile and how he would almost always leave you feeling good about yourself. If he wasn't telling a story about his many hunting adventures or his camping trips all over the north, he was playing his guitar, crooning Jim Reeves, Merle Haggard or of course his all-time hero, Elvis Presley. Eddie happily played music for the residents of the Manor and Pouce Hospital for over thirty years and it gave him immense pleasure to entertain people and visit with the local pioneers from his parents' and grandparents' era. What gave Eddie the most joy were his three children and seven grandchildren. "Grandpa D" met his great-grandson on his 79th birthday and was over the moon to know another great grand-baby was on the way. If you knew Eddie, you couldn't help but know how proud he was of his family and how much he loved us all. We are going to celebrate Eddie's life on his birthday this coming summer. If you are a friend or relative, please join us on June 28, 2019 at Dad's dear cousin Randy and his lovely wife Val Torgrimson's home for a party in his honour from 5:00 to 9:00pm. We will eat, drink some red wine (of course), laugh, sing all the old songs and remember a good man Eddie was predeceased by his father Ed Dahlen Sr. (1979), his mother Dorothy Dahlen (1998), and his brother Merle Dahlen (2005). He leaves to mourn his son Gord (Dini) Dahlen, daughters Lena-Marie (Murray) Prier and Katherine (Kevin) Blight; grandchildren Megan (Brenden) Moore, Alexandra Prier, Leah Prier, Katelin Dahlen, Cassidy Baras, Taylor Baras, Connor Dahlen, and great grandson Landon Moore; nephew Shawn (Nicole) Dahlen, niece Crystal (Geoff) Harris, great nieces Daylia Dahlen, Karlee Dahlen and great nephew Logan Harris, as well as many, many cousins, friends, and extended family. We'd like to thank Emily and the wonderful staff at Northview who made Dad's quality of life so much better these past three years. We offer our sincere gratitude to Dr. Roux and the nursing staff at Dawson Creek Hospital and the Rotary Manor for your kindness and care. If the measure of the success of a man's life is how much he loved and was loved, our Dad was a very rich man
