Obituary of Anna Hoff

Anna Hoff, a resident of Dawson Creek, BC, formerly of Enderby, BC, passed away on Friday, October 19, 2018 in Rotary Manor, Dawson Creek, BC at the age of 90 years. Annie Unruh was born near Swalwell, AB on July 18, 1928 to Claude and Susan Unruh. She was the oldest, and only daughter of seven children. At the age of 17 she was converted and baptized at Linden, AB. At the age of 19, she moved with her family to Langley Prairie, BC. She worked at a fish cannery in Stephenson, BC with her brother, Cornie, and then worked the tomato harvest in Ashcroft, BC. She also picked strawberries of which she would win competitions with other pickers. Annie received her education at the New Hope school. She walked or rode horse and buggy to school. On November 4, 1951 Annie married Edgar Thiessen from Manitoba. Edgar and Annie built a small house on Annies parents property which was later moved to McTavish Rd, BC. Later they started a grocery store and service station on McTavish Road. Edgar passed away September 21, 1968. Later on, she built a chicken barn and raised chickens. On July 25, 1975, Annie married Peter Hoff. A few years later Peter and Annie moved to Enderby, BC where they raised cattle and did some ranching. After Peter passed away on June 28, 2003, Annie bought a duplex in Enderby where she continued to live until her health began to fail. She then moved to her daughters home in Dawson Creek, BC on August 12, 2017. A big highlight in Annies life was to come back to Mt. Lehman at the Jubilee Hall for her 90th birthday, with many friends and relatives attending on a beautiful sunny day. On September 12, 2018 Annie had a stroke and went to the hospital where her health continued to decline. She was put in palliative care and then passed away on October 19, 2018. (An hour before she passed away there was a group who sang to her in her room.) Annie is survived by her three children; Byron Thiessen, Enderby; Susan Taylor, Dawson Creek; and Melvin Thiessen, Abbotsford, BC; and Ben and Mary Ann Unruh, Scio, Oregon. She was predeceased by her husbands, an infant son, parents and five brothers. Annie was laid to rest on October 26, 2018 at the Hazelwood Cemetery beside her first husband Edgar Thiessen.
