Obituary of Edward Spacil

Edward Spacil, a resident of Sexsmith, AB, formerly of Dawson Creek, BC, passed away on Tuesday, October 23, 2018 in Grande Prairie, AB, at the age of 90 years. Edward Albert Spacil was born on July 28, 1928 in Sexsmith, AB, and had two sisters and five brothers, one being his twin. He also had many nieces and nephews. He spent his years growing up in Sexsmith, working on the farm. When it was time for gramps to leave, he traveled around hopping in rail cars, hitchhiking, thats when he headed to Vancouver, to see the big City lights. It wasnt long when gramps realized he like the small towns. So, he headed back North, Gramps made a stop in Dawson Creek, he fell in love with this small town he found odd jobs here and then, and started a salvage yard business. In 1950 gramps met grandma and fell in love. They were married in 1954 and had six children, with three being stillborn, two daughters and one son. That carried on to bloom this beautiful family of forty-six: ten grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. To his six grand babies gramps was GG. He loved seeing his family grow. Gramps was told he would be getting two more great great grand babies in the spring of 2019, he was very happy to hear that. Gramps was very proud of his family. Gramps and I were talking about Grandchildren and how many there were. He had a big smile on his face and said wowhe couldnt believe it. Gramps knew everyone of us right down to the latest little Spacil boy being born. Gramps said he would hold each one of us dear to his heart. He also said he would come back as a chickadee bird and would visit us. We all knew that was grandmas pet name for gramps. On October 12 at 10am uncle Ron & Muriel and I took gramps to the Hospice in Grande Prairie. We checked the place out to be sure it was going to be good for gramps. He liked it!! We thought it was very comfortable; the nurses were awesome with gramps. It wasnt long, and he was teasing them. Gramps had his wittiness right to the end. Gramps had a big window facing a pond, which was right under his window; the geese and ducks would swim around then rest on the bank. Some days there would be quite a few. Gramps thought that was very nice. Gramps was only at the hospice for eleven days. He looked really good, we had him laughing and joking. It was so nice to see gramps smiling. I loved gramps smile. Gramps was sitting in his chair and I was standing looking at the geese, when he grabbed my hand and had me sit on his lap. I said gramps Im going to squish you!! All the sudden he started doing the dada dada hupchuck, gramps and I started to laugh. I think all of us grandchildren have had that ride before. Im going to miss gramps so very much. I would call him everyday since grandma passed, to see how he was doing and sometimes just to get advice. Gramps was always there to hand that out. Gramps never judged anyone, he loved all his grandchildren. Im sure each and every one of us has a story to tell about gramps, because he played a big roll in all our lives. Uncle Ron and I were with gramps every day, on Sunday October 21, gramps was looking really tired, he was saying he was done this fight; he was ready to go to sleep. We told him that we all understand, and we didnt want to see him suffer anymore. Monday, gramps looked really tired. Tuesday, uncle Ron took gramps to the hospital for his regular trek change. They got back around 1:30 and I got there shortly after. When I walked in gramps did not look well, he was having a very hard time breathing. Uncle Ron tried everything to comfort gramps. It was around 2:30 when gramps said he needed to pee, so up he got, walked to the bathroom, with a little help from uncle Ron. When gramps opened that bathroom door he looked bad. We got gramps to his bed. We both held his hands, gramps was having a stroke. We made sure he was comfortable; uncle Ron and I stayed holding gramps hands till he took his last breath. I told gramps it was ok he could head on up and see grandma she would be waiting for him. Gramps was very much at peace. We love you gramps A social tea to celebrate Eds life was held on Saturday, October 27, 2018 between 12:00 2:00 pm from Reynars Tearoom. Interment followed in the Brookside Cemetery, where Ed and his loving wife, Doris were laid to rest. Father Veneer Sabacan officiated the graveside service.
