Obituary of Dustin Popesco
On February 5, 2021, Heaven gained a wonderful artist - Dustin Valentine Popesco.
He will be greatly and sadly missed by family and friends.
Dustin was a passionate and incredible artist.
He played football as a teen. Being the gentle giant that Dustin was, he was unsure about playing at first. It soon became one of Dustins passions and the last year he played, his team got the Peace Bowl Ring.
Camping and the outdoors were favorites. He liked nothing better than to sit around a campfire with his family and friends. Flat Bed campground near Tumbler Ridge was one of his favorite places. He went on many hikes with his mother in these areas. Just this summer Dustin and his mother saw a Bob Cat up close and personal for the first time, the same one twice, while on the hike at the Flat Bed.
Dustin was very into making comic books. His first one Meatball Westerns Presents: The Bulletproof Rancher was printed and on sale in 2019. It shows a great deal of his talent as an artist and his humor in the written words. His second one he was still working on this past winter but never got to finish it.
In later years, reading and studying the art Masters was a great interest to him. He also found comfort in reading the Book of Job, although he wasnt sure, and was quite puzzled, as to why Job would have had those particular friends.
Gaming with his brother and friends was another outlet for Dustin. He enjoyed getting together with these friends online.
Dustin attended and completed his first year of Visual Arts at Northern Lights College. He entered many art shows and competitions in the Peace Liard area over the years.
Dustin worked for the Agro Co-op in the lumber yard, and he earned a Certificate of Appreciation for 5 years of service on his birthday in 2019. Hefting lumber and feed sacks was right up his alley.
Dustin wanted to live on his own and was able to do that in 2019. He had started going to church with friends. While visiting with his Pastor, Dustin dedicated his life to Jesus. While talking with Pastor Cyril they soon made plans for him to be water baptised. Dustin had a private service, as he wanted, of Baptism at the church.
Dustin handled his lifes struggles well! He trusted in God and kept focused on believing that he would soon be with Jesus and healed. He voiced a regret that he had started so late in life, and he wished he had done more for God. He would have wanted you all to know that. Dustin was unable to comprehend how many lives he had touched in his lifetime. He was a kind soul and will be greatly missed.
His mother was heard to say, we now see Dustin sitting on clouds in heaven drawing away to his hearts content.
A private family funeral service was held on February 17, 2021 with interment at Mountainview Cemetery in Groundbirch, BC. For friends so wishing, donations may be made to the Dawson Creek Art Gallery, 101-816 Alaska Avenue, Dawson Creek, BC V1G 4T6. The Art Gallery will be exhibiting Dustins artworks and holding classes in his memory.
