Mary Ellen Wards (nee Carr)
Mom was born in Powell River, BC to Michael and Bernice Carr. She was the second eldest of four children. She spent a large part of her childhood on Cortez Island and then they moved to Wildwood in Powell River. She married Richard Wards in 1954 and their first child was born in 1955 followed by nine more. In the mid seventies, Mary & Richard moved to Clinton, BC. After a few years, they moved to the Peace country and all of their children eventually followed suit. Mary worked in the service industry for many years, but her favorite job was working at Subway in Dawson Creek. She made lifelong friends and even ended up taking a cruise to Alaska with some of her Subway co-workers. Mary was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother, always active and playing with the kids and grandkids. She enjoyed badminton and loved to watch televised sports. You always knew what was happening in the world of curling, tennis, golf and baseball if you spent any time at her house. Mary was a devoted watcher of Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy and almost always knew the answers before the contestants even answered. She loved to go for a drive and chat, and she was the central hub of information for the family. If anyone knew what was happening, it would be Mary. In 2014, Mary moved out of her house in Dawson Creek and into Tremblay House in Pouce Coupe, where she enjoyed a lot of company and made new friends with the other residents, especially Joyce. She enjoyed her kids and grandkids taking her to town and driving around, enjoying the Peace Country.
