Obituary of Mike Rappel
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Michael George Rappel, long-time resident of Dawson Creek, British Columbia, on October 15th, 2021, at the age of 71 years. Mike was born on September 14th, 1950, in Spirit River, AB. The family then moved to Grande Prairie in 1957 where he spent his school years.
Mike and Sylvia were married in 1974 and in 1977 they chose Dawson Creek as the place they wanted to live and raise their family. They celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary this August.
Mike was a kind and caring person, and he will be missed by so many. His children and grandchildren were his greatest joy. He was very proud of all of them and made sure he always told them so.
Mike enjoyed life to the fullest. He loved curling, golf, camping with many friends & family, reading westerns and playing pool with the guys at the seniors hall. He especially loved keeping his vehicles shiny clean, especially his golf cart. He and Sylvia were able to do a bit of travelling to warmer climates as well, spending time in Arizona and Mexico.
He enjoyed his work at Northern Metallic Sales and later continued to stop by often to visit Larry and old friends.
Mike had a heart transplant on October 7th, 1989, and just had his 32nd anniversary with his gift of life. We will forever be grateful to the heart transplant team at the University of Alberta Hospital in Edmonton.
He is survived by his loving wife Sylvia and his 3 children, Charles (Christine) Rappel and their children Gregory, Jordan, Bradley & Emily; son, Doug (Kathleen) Rappel and their children Alexandra, Gabrial & Cassidy; and daughter Angie (Pat) Collins and their children Conner & Teegan; his sister in-law Leora(John), as well as many extended family and friends
He was predeceased by his dad, Peter (1991), his mom, Helen (2020) and his brother, Dyrald (1996).
There will be a Celebration of Life held at a later date. For friends and family so wishing, donations may be made in memory of Mike to the Dawson Creek Seniors Hall, 1101 McKeller Ave, Dawson Creek, BC V1G 2S2.
Very Respectfully, Reynars Funeral home & Crematorium
