Obituary of Alvie Shearer
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Alvie Shearer, a resident of Grande Prairie, Alberta, formerly of Dawson Creek, British Columbia, on Tuesday March 7, 2023, at the age of 71 years.
Alvie Shearer was born to Ralph and Selma Shearer on May 26, 1951. Alvie was the oldest of 4 children, big brother to Ed, Blaine and Trudy.
He grew up in Doe River, British Columbia, on the family farm. Alvie attended school in Doe River, British Columbia, and graduated high school at South Peace Secondary School in Dawson Creek, British Columbia.
After school, Alvie started work at Loiselle Transport. Alvie met his first wife Carol in 1968 and they were married in June 1972.
Anndra soon followed in 1978, and Trisha two years later in 1980.
Throughout his life Alvie worked at many businesses, including Dawson Carland Chevrolet, Case IH, McIntyres Auto Parts, Browns Chevrolet, Fosters, and Sander Rose Bone Grindle Chartered Accountants where he established many community connections and lifelong friendships.
Alvie had many hobbies which included curling, golf, baseball, reading, gardening, and music. He spent many years playing in the band The Ramblers and participated in many mens and mixed curling bonspiels.
After his first marriage ended in 2001, Alvie met Dawn Wade in 2002, and two more daughters were added to the family - Haley and Blair. Alvie and Dawn were married on November 10, 2012.
Alvie was a great supporter of the community, lending his time to the Dawson Creek Athletic Association, Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce, and charity golf events.
His last few years were spent travelling with Dawn, seeing Europe twice, always with a good book.
He will be missed dearly by all his family and friends.
Alvie is survived by his wife Dawn Wade; children Anndra (Mike) Graff, Trisha (Matt) Friesen, Haley (Tyler) Hunt, Blair Wade (Landon); grandchildren Reece, Skyler, Brynn, Zoey; siblings Ed (Kristine) Shearer, Blaine (Elaine) Shearer, Trudy McMillan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Alvie is predeceased by his parents Ralph and Selma Shearer.
A Celebration of Life for Alvie will be held at Reynars Funeral Chapel in Dawson Creek, British Columbia on Monday, March 20, 2023, at 1:00pm. Pauline Haycock will officiate. Interment to follow in Peace View Cemetery, Shearerdale, British Columbia. Friends are invited to further share this day with Alvies family at Rolla Hall for a tea immediately following the interment.
