Obituary of Demee Bassett
It is with deep sadness and much regret that we announce the sudden passing of Demee Racheal Bassett, a resident of Bluffton, Alberta, formerly of Dawson Creek, British Columbia, on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at the age of 25 years.
Demee Racheal Bassett was born May 11, 1997, on Mother’s Day in Dawson Creek, BC. What a wonderful gift on this day. She joined her two older sisters Breanna and Amanda. What a beautiful and good natured baby. In 2002, another sister, Jorja, joined the foray completing their family. What play mates these girls became and were a tight group that supported each other wholeheartedly. From a young age, storytelling was a very elaborate affair for Demee and you had better pay attention because if she thought you missed any part, the full story would again be told in great detail!
While growing up, participating in activities such as figure skating, dance, soccer, swimming (Bronze Cross), curling, horseback riding, quading, skiing, and sledding took place.
She attended Notre Dame School then graduated from South Peace in 2015. Immediately after graduating, she joined her dad in the logging industry operating equipment such as the excavator and feller buncher. She was a small person and looked so tiny in the large implements.
Being late never phased Demee and her dad deserved an award for all of his patience. Many on a regular basis played the “waiting game” but when she arrived with that winsome smile, all was forgiven. And those smelly fried eggs she loved and had to cook every morning were a challenge for everyone. Numerous courses were taken by her to keep up with the requirements of safety that was necessary in this field and also taking an industrial first aid course in order to be on site for medical emergencies. Telling us while driving the ambulance to a new site and how another ambulance passed her, made for some laughs. She was glad assistance wasn’t needed although would have helped!
Demee continued doing this until 2021 when she met her love and soul mate Mark then moved to Beaverlodge, AB. She took courses at the Grande Prairie Regional College for a semester (2021-2022) then was employed at Gauden’s Honda enjoying the job and people very much. What a change this was. In 2022 a move to Rimbey, AB took place and there she operated a grader for a family business. The move from home was difficult but with such a good nature, liking to socializing, and an apt listener, acquiring friends and getting established was very successful for Demee. She found her niche! Demee and Mark created a unique farm with their animals – horses (Smoky & Sally), dogs Millie & Buckaroo as well as “Bug” the pot belly pig. Demee had just completed courses and had set up her business “Double Diamond Lashes – Wild & Beautiful”.
It was in Blufton, Alberta that Demee passed suddenly on March 25, 2023, in a snowmobile accident. She is survived by John Mark Carruthers; parents Greg and Sandra Bassett; loving sisters Breanna (Derek) Loomis, Amanda (Shane) Burgess, Jorja Bassett; nephews & nieces Grant, Kenny & Brooklyn Loomis, Eva & Ellie Burgess;
grandparents Fred & Lorraine Sumners, Ken & Sharon Bassett; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins & friends
