Obituary of Vernon Ray Haugen

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Vernon Ray Haugen, a resident of McBride, British Columbia, on Friday, February 16, 2024, at the age of 75 years.  Vern passed away peacefully with family by his side at McBride Hospital. He was interred beside his parents in the Dawson Creek City Cemetery on February 27, 2024.

 

Vern was born on Friday, July 16, 1948, was one of 6 children, and grew up in the Peace Country. Although he made his home in McBride for many years, he remained a familiar face in this area through family connections, as well as a lifetime of employment in and around this area guiding, trucking, farming, operating equipment, construction, pipelining, and for many years before retirement, as an oilfield consultant.

 

Vern is survived by his wife Arlene; daughters Sheila Haugen and Leanne (Doug) Ryan; son Clint Haugen; step-son Chris Papp; step-daughter Chelsea (Spencer) Frose; daughter-in-law Shannon Haugen; grandchildren Abigail Haugen (Dan Erickson), Adam Cameron (Emily Mckay), Aaron Cameron, Kale Ryan, Caleb Haugen, Anna Haugen, Sarah Haugen; great-grandchildren Colt Erickson, Natalie Cameron, Lainey Cameron; siblings Shirley Marches, Randy (Shirley) Haugen, Harley Haugen (Lisa Schindel), Warren Haugen, Myrna (Dean) Greffard; along with many extended family members, in-laws, and friends.

 

Vern was predeceased by his parents Melvin and Aleta Haugen.

 

Vern’s family would like to invite you to join them for a celebration of his life on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at Cotillion Hall, Alberta at 4:00 pm Alberta time/3:00pm BC Time. They hope you can stay after for a visit and dinner.

 

Directions from Dawson Creek are: Take BC-49 37 km turn left on Range Rd 115 (Bonanza Turnoff), go 19 km then turn left onto Township Rd 812, go 1.6 km turn right onto Range Rd 120, go 9.7 km, and turn left onto Township Road 822, go 1.6 km then turn right onto Range Rd 121, go 1.7 km Cotillion Hall on the left.

 

Vern’s family extends their sincere thanks for the outpouring of expressions of sympathy and will be forever grateful to the staff of the McBride Hospital and Health Centre for their care and kindness.
