Obituary of Richard Joseph Gies
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Richard Joseph Gies, a resident of Dawson Creek, British Columbia, on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at the age of 93 years.
Richard was born on Tuesday, July 22, 1930, in Waterloo, Ontario, to Albert and Jean Gies. He was the fourth of ten children. Richard’s childhood was spent in Bridgeport, Ontario, before moving to Petersburg, Ontario, in his teen years. Throughout his adult years Richard and family moved around a lot and worked many different jobs, before settling in Dawson Creek, British Columbia.
Richard is survived by his daughters Kathy Schiedel, Lori Ann (Darren) Schwietzer; son Rick (Linda) Gies; along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brothers and sisters, extended family, and friends.
Richard was predeceased by his wife Ruth Gies; brother Norman “Buddy” Gies; parents Albert and Jean Gies; brother Ray Gies; sister Shirley Schmidt; and son-in-law Bill Schiedel.
Richard’s family would like to give a special thank you to the nursing and management staff at Rotary Manor for the excellent care given to Richard over the past several years. It is greatly appreciated.
With respect to Richard’s wishes no formal service will be held.
