Obituary of Wayne Eldon Way
It is with heavy hearts and much sadness that the family of Wayne Eldon Way announce his passing on February 21, 2024, in Chetwynd, British Columbia, at the age of 82 years. He fought a short but courageous battle with cancer.
Wayne was born on November 20, 1941, to Wesley and Lois Way in Turner Valley, Alberta. His family moved up to Gordondale, Alberta in 1954. Wayne then worked his way around the Peace River area at various jobs until he landed in Little Prairie (Chetwynd) in 1956.
Wayne met Sheila Beverly Moore while living at her parents’ boarding house, and they were married on November 23, 1962. They had 2 children, Michelle (Shelley) Lynn Way and Shawn Wayne Way. Wayne worked in several occupations to do with construction, heavy equipment, and trucking. In 1969, Wayne moved his family to Cranbrook, British Columbia. After several years of doing the same type of work, he got into business for himself and ran a couple of fuel stations and later a Bumper-to-Bumper store. In 1979, Wayne moved his family back to Chetwynd, where he worked for Chetwynd Redi Mix for several years. He ran the public works for the Village of Chetwynd for many years, and finally he finished his career going back into business with a loader and trucks.
Wayne was a devoted Husband, Father, and Grandfather. He had many hobbies over the years such as Team Roping, Golf, Camping and learning how to play the guitar after his retirement, but mostly he loved his sports on TV and drinking coffee with his buddies down at the A&W.
Wayne will be remembered by his loving wife of 61 years Sheila; daughter Shelley (Mike) Kozinuk; 5 grandsons Cole Kozinuk, Cody (Chrissy) Kozinuk, Callen (Lacey) Kozinuk, Bryce (Lilly) Way, and Rhett Way; great-grandchildren Chloe, Cooper, Easton, and Hallie; brother Danny (Loreen) Way; along with numerous other family and friends.
Wayne was predeceased by his son Shawn Way on February 26, 2021; parents Wes and Lois Way; sisters Maxine (John) Gripich and Sharon (Gerald) Sandul.
Wayne’s family would like to invite you to a Memorial Service for Wayne at the Chetwynd Fellowship Baptist Church on Monday, March 4, 2024, at 1:00 pm. Carmen Little will be officiating. Interment will be at a later date.
