Obituary of Gregory Glenn Broberg

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gregory "Greg" Glenn Broberg, a resident of Dawson Creek, British Columbia, on Thursday, January 18, 2024, at the age of 70 years.

How do you summarize the life of Greg, a son, husband, father, and grandfather? Love, fun, work and adventure!  He arrived on November 6th, 1953, to proud parents, Glenn and Vivian Broberg in Spalding, Saskatchewan. Their farm home was 2 miles out of town, and soon Greg was telling everyone for miles around that he ought to be rocked at all times! His dad grumbled once, “I could rock that baby right out the door,” but Grandpa Carl put an end to that sort of talk!  For siblings, Greg had an aunt, Joanne, only three years older than himself who spent lots of time at the farm and a younger sister, Maureen.

Vivian and Glenn moved to Greenwater Lake Provincial Park to run Fisherman’s Cove when Greg was fifteen. There wasn’t much time to play anymore and everyone in the family pumped gas, changed tires, towed trucks, sold groceries, helped cook for the café or in the Golden Drumstick.  (There was also a beauty salon, but Greg was never expected to learn to do hair!)  Greg alone was responsible for the Golden Drumstick and when it was inspected, they didn’t find any germs. Vivian figured he just dumped bleach over everything at the end of the day and called it clean!

Greg first met Lynn when she came to Greenwater Lake camping with friends. He took her fishing, and they continued to see each other until they were married on July 4, 1974.  Two children soon arrived, Cindy and Colin, and many happy memories were made while raising their family at Greenwater Lake.  Summers were spent at the Tackle Box, renting out boats, paddle boats, canoes, water skis, etc., and swimming at the beach. Aunts, uncles and cousins would come to visit and play.  Life with Greg and Lynn usually involved exploring the great outdoors, and Greg especially enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Greg and Lynn moved to Kelowna in 1988 to be closer to Greg’s Grandma Elsie. Again, Greg and Lynn made many amazing friends and memories. They would pack up the kids and take them camping on weekends.  Once they caught the last ferry at Farquar and, absolutely exhausted, pitched their tent in the dark.  Lynn asked what these round disks in the lawn were for.  Greg responded “Oh they are probably part of an automatic sprinkler system.  In the wee hours the sprinklers went on, water blasting up the side of the tent wall and through the flap.  Greg was outside in a flash tying up the sprinkler heads so they would only spray away from the tent.  In the morning, they packed up to carry on and discovered a ‘No Overnight Tenting’ sign. There are so many, many similar stories!

They then moved to Dawson Creek in 2009 to be closer (i.e., across the street) to Cindy and her children and Colin (in Grande Prairie).  Both grandparents and grandchildren were so fortunate to have been a part of each other’s lives.

Greg wore many different hats over the years: business owner and manager, mechanic, carpenter, salesman, financial planner, and finally pastor of a small congregation in Dawson Creek. Greg and Lynn always had a strong love for the Lord that was their foundation for life, a life full of meaningful conversations and laughter to warm your heart.

Greg passed away in his sleep on the 18th of January, 2024, and will be missed by his wife, Lynn, children, Cindy Broberg (Hugh Stensrud) and Colin Broberg (Carla Dayman), and grandchildren, Braeden Comber, Larkin Comber and Nissa Broberg-Stensrud.

Greg will forever hold a special place in the hearts of everyone whose life he touched.
