Obituary of Edward James Gates

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Edward "Ed" James Gates, a resident of Dawson Creek, British Columbia, on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at the age of 68 years.

Ed was born in Gull Lake, Saskatchewan, as the third of five children born to John and Lila Gates.

Ed had an amazing sense of humour and loved to tease people. His smile was contagious, and his laugh was infectious. Everyone Ed knew was special to him and he never hesitated to make them feel that way – no matter their lot in life. If all Ed had was five dollars and someone needed it, he would give it to them. Ed was a very caring and loving father. He never missed an opportunity to call and check up on you, or just to chat. He was the best papa, the best dad, and the best friend anyone ever had.

Ed’s passion was the oil patch. He loved trucking and driving anywhere for work.

Ed is survived by his wife Dorothy; children Shona (Jaret), Amanda (Brian), Pam (Mike), Mark, and Kendra (Brandon); grandchildren Demitrius, Mikenna, Kade, Lincoln, Jacob, Benjamin, Oliver, Lucas, Grace, Scott, Sophie, and Lucy; sisters Barb (Dale) and Maxine (Henry); along with many nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.

Ed was predeceased by his father John; mother Lila; brother Les; and sister Linda.

The family would like to invite everyone to a Celebration of Life on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, from 1:00 to 3:00pm, at the Dawson Creek Seniors Centre.
