Peter Derhousoff

Obituary of Peter Oliver Derhousoff

In Loving Memory of Peter Oliver Derhousoff

Long time resident of Chetwynd, Peter Oliver Derhousoff, passed away on Monday, July 24, 2023, at the age of 70 years. For now, his time with us has come to a close, the impact he has left behind is immeasurable.

Peter’s journey began in March 1953 in Nelson, British Columbia, where he lived briefly until the family moved to Squamish where he lived most of his earlier years. Yet it was in Chetwynd that he found his true home, spending an incredible 45 years of his life there. It was in this picturesque corner of the world that he met the love of his life, Pamela Derhousoff (Curtis), and together they nurtured a life rich with love, warmth, and shared dreams. It was here that Peter and Pam raised their four children – Cory, Sylvia, Josh, and Alisha – each a testament to Peter's boundless love and unwavering devotion.

Peter was a person of remarkable talents, a true renaissance man who could effortlessly step into any role. With a hand devoted of a green thumb, he wove his mastery into the earth as an accomplished gardener. His hands fashioned wood into stories, etching his legacy as both a carpenter and a builder. Those fortunate enough to step into Rupert Seafood/Little Prairie Store are greeted by his craftsmanship, an artistry that whispers of love, dedication, and care.

As a millwright at the Chetwynd Canfor sawmill, Peter's industrious talent found its natural home. After dedicating years to his trade, at the age of 65, Peter chose to embrace a new chapter, retiring from the mill. This transition allowed him to embrace his cherished role as a doting grandfather, to walk hand in hand with each day as if it were Arbor Day, tending to his trees with tenderness, and nurturing his ever-blossoming garden.

The news of Peter's passing has cast a shadow upon our hearts, dimming the light within, for his absence leaves a void impossible to fill. Yet, even as we grieve, we are reminded that our world is irrevocably brighter for having been graced by his presence. The echoes of his laughter, the lessons of his wisdom, and the imprint of his love are woven into the fabric of our lives.

Peter's memory finds solace in the hearts of those who loved him most – his devoted wife of 41 years, Pamela Derhousoff; his children, Cory Betts, Sylvia Betts, Josh Derhousoff, and Alisha Derhousoff; his cherished grandchildren; his sister Millie Palmer; his brothers Alex Derhousoff and John Derhousoff; and a host of nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart.

To honor Peter, a Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at 2:00 pm, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Chetwynd, B.C. As we gather to celebrate his remarkable life, we ask that you join us in a simple yet profound gesture – plant a tree in his memory.
