Obituary of Lavina Annie Henderson
Loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
Annie began her life on July 3, 1931. She was the third child born to Ben & Mary Heinke in the rural farm community in Wapella, Saskatchewan. She grew up on a ranch and loved riding her horses.
In 1947, when she was sixteen, Annie and her parents moved out West to Tupper. This was when she met her husband Gerald Henderson, (better known as Gerry). Annie and Gerry moved into a small house in Tupper where they raised their seven children (Jean, Ed, Linda, Don, Roger, Mae & George). She was a devoted mother. She loved gardening and baking, her children remember coming home from school to the smell of fresh baked bread or pie.
She was a faithful church-goer and made sure she and her children went to church every week.
Annie and Gerry lived in Tupper for many years until most of her children were grown and raising families of their own. Then they decided to move to Dawson Creek. During this time Annie suffered the loss of her son Roger and a year later her husband Gerry passed away. She and her youngest son George then decided to move back to Tupper to live in the log home built for her by her sons.
Annie always had a vegetable garden in the lot across the street from her house. The grandkids would sneak over when she was not watching and take as many peas and carrots as they could carry and hide at the sawdust pile and have a feast.
She was always a hard worker and always kept herself busy, cleaning, sawing wood, washing laundry with a wringer washer, weeding her garden or baking bread.
One of her most common sayings was "waste not want not" and she made sure we didn't waste. I believe that she has had an enormous influence on our lives. I always looked up to her and admired what a hard working, strong woman she has always been.
We will miss you. God Bless You.
