Obituary of George Edward St. Germain
George Edward St Germain was born on August 24, 1929 in Riviere QueBarre, Alberta. He died peacefully on July 2, 2007 in Dawson Creek Hospital surrounded by his family.
George was the 6th child in a family of 8. He lost his Mother while still a young child and along with some of his siblings was to spend a total of 6 years in a convent. His Father remarried and he and his wife Margaret had 6 children.
George met the love of his life Doreen L'Hirondelle and they married on November 9, 1950. He and Doreen were blessed with a large family of 6 girls and 3 boys. Family was a huge part of George's life. Papa George was special to everyone, but he had a real soft spot for his grandchildren. They each shared a special bond with him.
George held a number of different jobs when he was younger and eventually decided that line work was his calling. He worked with Alberta Power and then BC Hydro from 1962-1987, when he took early retirement at the age of 58. But then he subcontracted with BC Hydro, retired from that and worked for Stan Mac. George became an avid golfer and while playing in Salmon Arm he realized every golfer's dream. A hole in one.
George enjoyed watching all sports, especially hockey, where he cheered enthusiastically for the Montreal Canadians and also Team Canada. In his younger years he played baseball on the BC Hydro team along with sons, Floyd and Danny. He was a member of Dawson Creek's 5 pin bowling association, and also belonged to the Elks Lodge, The Foresters and coached his boys in their minor hockey days.
George's faith was unwavering over the years. As long as he was physically able, he attended Mass on Sunday. His rosary was his constant companion, and he prayed it daily. His faith gave him strength and comfort through some challenging health problems in the last 10 years.
George was predeceased by sons, Danny and Ron and his daughter-in-law Val his Mom and Dad, Alfred & Delphine and step mom Margaret, sisters Mary, Clara, Adeline, Evelyn, Irene and brother Al.
He is survived by his loving wife Doreen and children, Laverne (Dave) LeMaitre, Kathy (Harold) McLeod, Debbie (Wayne) Hanrahan, Lucille (Brent) Andrews, Gerry (Bob) Lagasse, Chris (Simon) Hine and son Floyd. Brothers, Mike, Ray, Rupert, Stan, and Sisters Rosie and Lynda. He had 15 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
George's family will cherish his memory forever. We love you Papa!
