Obituary of John Lengyel

John was born on October 3rd, 1923 in Romania, he was a unique, decent and compassionate man who asked little of others, but enjoyed to talk to people about various topics, mostly political, because that's just an interest he had. I used to refer to him as Uncle John since I was a little girl. He was a conscientious man and took world issues seriously talking about a variety of issues that concerned him From time to time he would tell interesting stories about his life in Romania and Hungary where he grew up. I could tell he loved to talk about his home country. Often he would throw in a joke or two and I still remember the twinkle in his eye as he tried to remain serious waiting for a response then he laughed his eyes sparkling like stars in the sky. I knew him to be a strong and hard working individual whose determination was unyielding. When Aunt Otilia passed on, he was alone for many years until he met Aunt Julia, who was a very kind lady with many stories to tell of her past and how much she appreciated her life with Uncle John. When she passed on Uncle John stayed to him self biding his time working until he retired. Many years have passed since then and I had lost touch with him, remembering the times we spent together. His personality when I visited with him was always friendly and earnest. After he retired from the railroad, he resigned himself to staying on his acreage on the Alaska Hwy. He adopted a few cats, who I believe were his special companions and during the summer he enjoyed his gardening. He was very fortunate to have some kind and understanding neighbours who had time for him whenever he dropped in. Todd and Tabatha Logan spent time with Uncle John, driving him to town from time to time and I know he appreciated every single minute they spent with him. During the past few years I believe he lived the life he enjoyed and made the most of what he had. He was an interesting and determined man and I will always remember him with his kind, sparkling eyes. For those who knew him I am sure he will always leave a special memory in your heart. Now the time has come to say goodbye to a very special person who will be loved, remembered and missed by those who knew him. Goodbye Uncle John. A funeral service was held on August 31st, 2007 from Reynars Funeral Chapel, Bev Dunsmore officiated. John was laid to rest with his wife Julianna in the Dawson Creek City Cemetery.
