Obituary of Bendt Larsen

Bendt Larsen was born on June 22, 1923 in Kisserup, Denmark to Lars and Nora Larsen. He passed away on November 27, 2008 in Dawson Creek at the age of 85 years. Ben was a very special man. He always seemed to have a quiet dignity, yet he also had a very wry sense of humour. He made us all laugh a lot on many occasions. He was someone that we respected and admired so much. He was a true family man, and was totally devoted to his late wife, his son and his family. He came to Canada with his wife and son 52 years ago, and it could not have been an easy transition. There were language barriers as well as cultural. For example, in Denmark, it was completely acceptable to bring a beer to work as your chosen beverage in your lunch box. But he soon found out at his new job that it was a major taboo to do the same here in Canada. But regardless of many hardships, they persevered, and he became very successful in his career and was very well liked and respected. We will always be grateful for the memorable times that we all had together, and also for the way our grandparents raised our father to be such a wonderful, caring, generous, respectable person. It was with our Grandparent's influence in our lives, together with our own awesome parents, that my sister and I were raised. One could not ask for a better background, and start in life. We are both eternally thankful for that. So, although he will be greatly missed, Bendt leaves us all with many happy memories, and a legacy of respect, pride and dignity that we will all cherish forever. We are happy for him now that he will finally, after a long, sad separation of 13 years, be back together with the love of his life, our very special Grandmother and Mother, Karen. We wish them both an eternity of happiness. Ben was predeceased by his parents and his late wife, Karen. He is survived by one son; Bjarne Larsen and daughter-in-law, Lisette Larsen; two granddaughters, Sandra and Brenda; and 4 great-grandsons, Brew, Kris, Gordon and Ben.
