Obituary of Jean Magdalena Laws
On December 9, 2008, Jean Magdalena Laws, at the age of 78, passed away peacefully at the Chetwynd General Hospital with her family by her side.
She will be forever loved and missed by her husband of 53 years, Stuart. Her sons Mark (Teresa), Rick and Alan (Anneli), 5 grandchildren Sarah (Thomas), Christopher, Naiomi (Josh), Benjamin and Bethany. 1 great-grandchild, Kaelyn. Sisters, Ann, Freda (Mike), Mary (Pat), sister-in-law, Peggy and numerous nieces, nephews and their families.
Jean was born on Monday, June 2, 1930 in St. Walburg, Saskatchewan to Fred and Mary Geuder. She was the eldest of 5 children. In 1955, Jean married Stuart Eldon Laws and had 3 boys, Mark, Rick and Alan. They were raised in Calgary, Alberta until moving to Chetwynd in 1964, where Jean continued to raise her children and grandchildren and be amongst family and friends. While being a homemaker, Jean also babysat for numerous families around Chetwynd, worked as a telephone operator and waited at the Chetwynd Court Motel.
Jean will always be remembered for her sense of humour, her Holiday traditions with her family, her love for God and Sunday dinners. Jean enjoyed gardening, raising canaries, painting, American politics, playing and watching sports and in her younger years, always enjoyed a good party.
Jean was predeceased by her parents, Fred Gueder and Mary Wick, brother Fred Gueder and grandson Aaron laws.
A funeral service was held on Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at 1:00 pm at the Chetwynd Seventh Day Adventist Church. Ed Sukow officiated. Interment was held at the Tuscoola Mountain Cemetery.
