Obituary of Beatrice Pearl Fellers

Beatrice was born in Grande Prairie, Alberta on October 27, 1922 and was the third child of Charlie and Effie Kezer. At the age of seven, she moved with her family to a homestead in the Progress District. Her father, a carpenter by trade, built a log house and there the family shared the tasks of gardening, raising rabbits, then chickens, turkeys, geese, goats and a milk cow or two. She was fond of recalling a moose calf and a bear cub that became much loved family pets. The family was initially home-school by her Mother, who was a teacher, and later attended the Progress School. When it came time to go to high school, Beatrice and her brother Forrest would walk to Dawson Creek each week and back to Progress for the weekend. In 1942, she met and married the love of her life, Ray Fellers. Together, they raised their three children, Ron, Darlene and Marilyn. Once her children were grown; Beatrice spent several summers with Ray in the mountains cooking for him, the guides, and the big game hunters. These were some of her favourite times. In later years, she happily filled the role of "Mom" for her niece, Wanda and nephew, Mike. Beatrice was a homebody who loved gardening, sewing, knitting, crocheting and baking. In her younger years she also played the violin and created beautiful sketches and water colour paintings. Kids and grandkids always found the "Cookie Pig" full of homemade goodies and gifts of her handiwork were common whether mittens, stuffed animals, doilies or sewing. Beatrice loved the wild birds attracted to the feeders in her yard, but the greedy squirrels were another thing. She was teased forever about the untimely death of on hapless squirrel who was accidentally struck and killed with a swinging extension cord as she tried to scare it away. The deer and one bear who approached her doorstep also learned to respect a feisty little woman wielding a broom. She lived at her home in the Progress District until the age of 83 at which time she moved into the comfort of Rotary Manor in Dawson Creek. Beatrice passed away peacefully at the age of 86 on May 10, 2009. She was predeceased by her parents, Charlie and Effie Kezer; siblings, Joy, Carol, Forrest and Faith; her husband, Ray; and son Ron. Beatrice is survived and sadly missed by her daughters, Darlene (Wayne) Hiebert and Marilyn (Bob) McClarty; daughter-in-law, Kathy Fellers; Son / nephew, Mike (Shirley) Kezer and daughter / niece, Wanda (Dave) Flower; brother-in-law, Norman Arnott, sisters-in-law, Ruth Tenborg, Jean Fellers and Lila Fellers; 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service was held on Friday, May 15, 2009 at 2:00 pm from Reynars Funeral Chapel. Bev Dunsmore officiated; interment followed in the Dawson Creek City Cemetery.
