Obituary of Roy Elmer Bedell
Roy was born on January 13, 1947 in Dawson Creek B.C. to Edward (Ted) and Dorthy Bedell, Roy was predeceased by his Father Edward 1979; Brother Gary 1969; Nephew Lloyd Bedell, 1966; and Leroy Bedell, 1995.
The family moved to East Pine in 1951 where Roy and his older brother Gary, and younger brother Glen attended school; their younger brother Dale was born here in 1959. It was around this time that Roy and Glen began to spend time in Lone Prairie breaking horses for Guy Irleand. The family moved to Chetwynd in 1962; another brother Terry was born in 1964 shortly before the family moved to the acreage at Sundance Lake in 1966.
In 1973 Roy bought property in Lone Prairie, he started his farm with one small bay mare named Peggy that had been given to him by his dad. He also acquired a black gelding named Coronel; together they made many miles.
In 1976 Roy bought 25 yearling heifers and kept them until 1980 when he traded all of them for a place up the Murray River called Fish Creek; he also acquired Don's trap line. Many pack horse trips were made to Fish Creek with friends and family.
In 1989 Roy and Roxy started their life together. Roxy's two children Tanya and Bobby took an instant liking to Roy and he, in turn, was very fond of them. Roy was very proud to have his first granddaughter, Tesha.
Roy introduced Roxy to a whole new lifestyle which she loved; Roy taught her how to ride and before long he had her signed up for a roping school. Roy and Roxy roped together as a team whenever they could, Roy was the header and Roxy the heeler. Roy won trophies and always won just enough money to keep him and Roxy roping.
Roy and Roxy were married on August 26, 2000. Anything was great as long as they did it together, it was a wonderful life.
When Roy's second granddaughter Tristan was born he was very proud. His dream was to make his girls the best cowgirls in the country! Roy's horses, his land and his family were his life. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, trapping, doctoring, mechanicing, building, fencing, cutting trails, running the cat, farming, working the land, breaking horses to drive, ride and pack - he loved it all. Roy was an honest and fair person, the fairest person one could hope to meet. He will be sadly missed by his family and many friends.
Roy passed away on June 5, 2009 in Edmonton, Alberta at the age of 62 years. A memorial service was held on June 11, 2009 at 1:00 pm at the Pine Valley Exhibition Park, Pastor Gary Henderson officiated.
Very Respectfully Reynars Funeral Home & Crematorium.
