Obituary of John Van Eyk

John William Van Eyk, more commonly known as Jim, was born under a bus on an accident scene in Winnipeg, Manitoba on April 14, 1941. His birth mother was taken from him in the accident, and soon after Jacob and Willamena Van Eyk adopted this precious miracle. When Jim was 14, he decided to venture out into the world on his own, ending up in the Vancouver area. It was in Maple Ridge, B.C. that he met his wife Theresa, who was introduced to him by her boss. They were married on June 29, 1971 in New Westminster; soon after they settled inthe Bay Tree area. Jim worked for the city of Dawson Creek for 28 years;he operated a grader in the summer months and a snow plow in the winter. Jim was known in the community for his love for baseball; playing and coaching. He also loved animals and anything to do with nature. He was known for his joking, fun-loving side. He was also known around the peace countryfor his talent withwoodworking. Jim passed away on March 21, 2009 in Dawson Creek at the age of 67 years. A memorial tea will be held for Jim at the Bay Tree Hall on July 18, 2009 at 11:00 am Alberta time. Left to cherish his memory is his wife Theresa, daughter, Linda, sons Henry and Bruce, sister-in-law, Marie (Alex), brother-in-law, Andy (Billy), nephews Yves, Jesse, Edward and Dean and Niece, Debra, great-niece, Brittany and great-nephew, Dillon. He will be sadly missed by all his friends.
