Obituary of Eleanor Grant
Eleanor's name means: "Shining Light"
Daughter, Friend, Wife, Sister-In-Law, Mother, Aunt, Grandmother, Great Grandmother.
Eleanor was born on June 18, 1915 in Regina Saskatchewan to Alexander and Janet MacIntosh. She was an only child.
Eleanor graduated from High School in Regina then on to Scott Collegiate for secretarial training in 1934, after which time she chose a career working in the Motor Vehicle Branch in Regina. It was at this place of employment that she met the love of her life, "Burnem". They were married on June 18th, 1941. It was also Eleanor's birthday!
In the spring of 1943 Burnem left Saskatchewan and moved to Dawson Creek. Eleanor stayed behind to give birth to Janeen. At the end of November Burnem went back to Regina to bring Eleanor and Janeen back to Dawson Creek.
The other five of their children, Ross, Burnem Jr., Donna, Claudia and Dell were born in Dawson Creek.
Today their offspring includes; 16 Grand Children, 19 Great Grandchildren and a special Grand Pup.
At the time of their 60th wedding anniversary we were talking about the many years that she and Burnem had been married. I had congratulated her on their 60 years together. She was saying that it was a shame how many marriages ended in divorce. We talked about how most marriages go through difficult times. I asked her if she had ever considered divorce during their years of marriage. She replied "Divorce no, Murder yes"! They were married for 66 years until Burnem passed away in 2007.
Mom was an excellent Mother. Fun loving, caring, giving, nurturing- She was motivated to see her children succeed in life and always encouraged them to their best. Mom always demonstrated her ability to show. "Unconditional Love"... Forever!
She was exceptional at her job. Very well liked, respected, loved and remembered. Every one that worked with or know her would know about her ability to spell. She would even spell words for the Doctors when they couldn't.
Once Eleanor retired from her position at the Medical Clinic in 1981 she lived out the rest of her life pursuing relationships with her family and friends; Hobbies of Knitting, Sewing and Reading. Mom was also a wonderful pianist. She especially liked playing the honky-tonk style.
She will be remembered by her large family and many friends for her love of people, cats, Miss C. Hats, Music, Dance, Humour, Ice Cream, Oh Henry Chocolate Bars, Liver and Onions, Pacific Milk, Cardboard boxes and Mactack. She loved chicken drumsticks and wishes that chickens had more than 2 legs.
Mom's days here on earth ended Tuesday, July 2nd, 2009, at the age of 93 years. A Memorial Service was held on Monday, July 6, 2009 at 1:00 pm from Reynars Funeral Chapel. Bev Dunsmore officiated; interment followed in the Dawson Creek City Cemetery.
