Obituary of Boyd Bennett

Edward Boyd Bennett, resident of Dawson Creek, BC, formerly of Doe River, BC and Maderia Park, BC, passed away on November 25, 2019 at the age of 71 years of age, after a brief illness with cancer. Boyd was born to May Delaney and Forrest Bennett on August 10, 1948 in Calgary, Alberta. Boyd relocated to Vancouver with his mother, where he spent the greater part of his childhood before they moved to Maderia Park. This move to the Sunshine Coast would be where he met Margaret Masters - fast friends and dancing partners while in their teen years. When attending Pender Harbour Secondary School, he was active in the social committee and participated on the basketball team. Boyd met up again years later with Margaret, rekindling their friendship and then later marrying in July of 1989 - a small wedding witnessed by friends and family, including both of Boyd's children, Deanna and Jesse Bennett. They decided to make the Sunshine Coast their home again in 1984 and resided there until making the move to the Peace River Region area, purchasing a farm in Doe River, in 1994. They embraced the quiet life of living on the farm with their horses and dogs, until selling the farm and moving into Dawson Creek in 2012. Boyd had always wanted to be a truck driver, and at the age of 16 started driving for his stepfather, Ernie Widman. This became a life-long career choice, and only went onto another form of employment when he decided to retire from driving in 2015, in order to stay closer to home and have shorter working days. It was then that he started his employment with Walmart Canada - serving customers and having the opportunity to socialize with the public. He wasn't sure that he was going to like this type of work - but soon found that he thoroughly enjoyed going to work everyday. He looked forward to his work shifts and did so up to the point of no longer being able to physically do the job after being diagnosed and began treatment for lung cancer. Boyd became a member of the Blue Lodge Master Masons, Ancient Work in 1988, remained a member until his passing. Some of our fondest memories of Boyd was of his love of anything sweet - chocolate, cookies, ice cream. We would often find stashes of cookie tins in the cupboards that he got on sale - still makes us laugh as we only just found another tin of Quality Streets chocolates the other day. He loved to dance - and had amazing dancing techniques - even when he was in high school. We have been told by those who knew him at that age, that other people would stop to watch him dance. He also had a sense of humour like no other - always cracking a joke and trying to get everyone smiling or laughing. It was his goal in life - and often when he was with his brother, Reggie, no one was off limits to share their terrible jokes with. Boyd was predeceased by his mother May; his father Forrest; his stepfather Ernie Widman; his sisters Sharon Coulthurst and Beverly (Durieux), his brother Donald Bennett, and his young son, Shay. He will be forever remembered by his wife of 30 years and soul mate Margaret; his children Deanna and Jesse Bennett; his stepdaughter Rebecca (Rod) Needham; his stepson Lee Sundquist; his grandchildren: Kaleigh (Weston) Kuenzl, Sam Needham, and Logan, Maia, and Hayden Etherton; great grandson Wren Kuenzl; his brothers: Reg (Ziggy) Coulthurst, Calvin (Helen) Widman and Barry Bennett; along with nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family. No service will be held at Boyd's request.
