Obituary of Stanley Parr

It is with great sadness that family announces the passing of Stanley (Stan) James Parr on December 5, 2019, with his family by his side, at the age of 82. While his last 6 years were spent living in Dawson Creek, Stan was a long-time resident of Chetwynd, BC. Stan was born on April 22, 1937 in Dawson Creek, as the second oldest child of Francis (Frank) and Edna Parr (nee Warren). Stan grew up on his parents farm in the Groundbirch area, attending the small local rural school and working with his Dad on the farm and his Dads trapline. He loved baseball, and as a young man gained area renown as an outstanding pitcher for the Groundbirch Giants ball team, where he played with his brother; Bert, brother-in-law; Darwin, and numerous friends. Stan spent most of his work career with the Highways department and its successor contractors based out of Chetwynd. Stans prowess as a baseball pitcher was such that he was reportedly scouted, if not the least by his future wife Ellen (nee Waldie). Stan and Ellen wed on May 14, 1965 and subsequently raised 4 daughters while living in Chetwynd. Stan was devoted to his girls, and the family spent many fun days camping, fishing, and visiting his parents farm. When not dealing with winter snow drifts at work or the perils of raising 4 girls, Stan enjoyed counting his cribbage points, shaking his fist at the ball game on TV, or announcing his next bank shot at the pool table. He was a long time Chetwynd Elks member, and his purple Scottsdale 3+3 pickup could often be found parked at the Lodge while he was enjoying a game of shuffleboard and a Budweiser inside. In his later years, Stan was blessed with his grandchildren and then great-grandchildren, who he greatly enjoyed watching and mentoring. He was particular about having a neat lawn, and could be frequently seen either pushing his mower or afterward enjoying the sun and a Bud on his deck. Stan maintained his sharp wit and sense of humour, usually evidenced by a twinkle in his eyes and a subtle grin when he made a wry comment or chose to give someone the gears. Stan is survived by his loving wife, Ellen of Dawson Creek, daughters; Sandra (Dan) Chevalier, Patricia, Donna, and Kathy (Clint) Parr, sister; Eileen (Darwin) Dunbar, brother; Tom (Ginger) Parr, grandchildren; Brittney (Dusty), Jeffery (Jessie), Quinlan, Kelsey, Brianna, Madison, and Serenity, great-grandchildren; Daxton, Bentley, Hudson, and Gabriella, step-grandchildren Thayne and Kayle, and numerous family and friends. He is predeceased by his parents; Frank and Edna Parr and brother; Wilbert (Bert) Parr. A private family memorial is to be scheduled at a future date.
