Obituary of Murray Schemenauer

Murray Schemenauer, a resident of Dawson Creek, formerly of Hudsons Hope, BC, passed away suddenly with his loving wife, Julie, by his side, on Wednesday, February 5, 2020, at the Dawson Creek & District Hospital, at the age of 75 years. Murray was born on September 11, 1944 to Anton and Eileen, in North Vancouver. He arrived in Hudsons Hope during the mid-sixties to work on the WAC Bennett Dam. He helped with the construction there and then a portion of the Site One Dam. He finished his career doing general trades back at the Bennett Dam. Murray loved the outdoors and spent many summers camping and traveling; he especially loved the Alaska and Dawson City trips. Murray loved animals and birds so he especially enjoyed the years living on the riverbank in Hudsons Hope where there was always an abundance of wildlife. He also spent many happy hours in the bush or at a river with his boys. Another passion Murray had was hockey, he always enjoyed driving the boys to games or practices, watching it on TV or hanging out with his buddies at the arena. After Vicki came along, he happily entered the world of tea parties, dolls, dress-up, make-up and hair. He loved to cook and instilled this love onto his children. Unfortunately in the late nineties, a stroke and heart issues changed his life. Murray fought the paralysis and other changes and was able to return to work for a couple of years. During this time he found his creative side. Murray was always very proud of his kids, their partners and his grandchildren. Murray will be missed by his loving wife of 48 years; Julie, children; Shane (Joana), Ryan (Kristin) and Vicki (Pat), grandchildren; Caitlyn, Chloe, Brooklyn, Easton, Nate and Mylie, brother-in-law; Tim (Gerry), sister-in-law; Liz as well as numerous extended family and many friends. Murrays family would like to invite everyone to come camp and help them remember his life on the weekend of Friday, July 10 to Sunday, July 12, 2020 at Peace Island Park, Taylor, BC.
