Obituary of Harvey Armitage

Harv was born in St. Thomas, Ontario but spent his school years in nearby Simcoe. An old child, during the Dirty Thirties he lived with his grandparents, his parents, and two sets of aunts and uncles in a cozy house. Harv's dad owned Army's Barbershop, and as we all know, Harv knew good grooming. As an adult Harv started out in banking and, after his 1953 marriage to Kim, his career continued at GM in Oshawa. There he raised four children: Shane, Guy, Katherine, and Christopher. Harv's many interests included aviation, archery, curling, billiards, golf, country drives, art, reading, attending auctions, volunteering in community services, music and cats. Remembered for his talent in woodworking, his appreciation of quality workmanship, and his connection with animals. A man who kept mostly to himself, he did enjoy a good laugh and had a sensitive and considerate way with people. We've all been touched by his artistic abilities, his helping hands and his contemplative nature. A gentleman until the end. Harv's Little "Village" After spending five enjoyable summers there, Harv was hooked on Hudson's Hope and made the permanent move in May 2003. He kept a neat and tidy apartment in Silver Willow Court, a space filled with unique and interesting collectibles. Seventeen of his best years followed as he became involved in Guy's honey business and in a variety of hobbies and activities. He returned to his talent with tools, enjoying his time in the workshop and was a fixture at every farmers market. A frequent customer at On The Rim, he had his favourite table and there he visited with many locals while sharing a laugh with his favourite cook/person, Deb. The friendly and welcoming community of Hudson's Hope played a key part in allowing Harv to feel safe and comfortable in his final years. With respect to Harvey's wishes, no service will be held. Expressions of sympathy may be made by donation to Diabetes Canada, 1300-522 University Avenue, Toronto, ON M5G 2R5.
