Obituary of Jack Wood

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jack Wood, a long-time resident of Chetwynd, BC, on Wednesday, April 22, 2020, in Chetwynd at the age of 90 years. Jack Wood was born on October 14, 1929 to Hubert and Gena (Sernes) Wood in Edam, Saskatchewan. Jack worked with his parents on the homestead in Robinhood Saskatchewan until he was about 17 years old and he began to work in logging in southern Saskatchewan. Jack also enjoyed baseball and many other sports. He did love watching hockey and curling in later years. In 1955 Jack moved to Vancouver where he worked on the docks moving coal and shortly after this, he moved to the Peace River area where he began working in sawmills local to Chetwynd. While working at one of these mills, Jack met his future wife, LouVena Morton who he married on February 29, 1960. They raised 3 children together, Dianne was born in 1961, Avis in 1963 and Tim in 1966. Jack worked in logging until a back injury in the late 70s while logging made him decide to take up the less less physical job of ranching in the Chetwynd area. He and his family settled in the Jackfish Lake area where they built a ranch. Jack continued ranching until his passing. He loved driving out and looking at his horses and cows. He loved family, team roping and the friends he had gathered through the years. Many friend and family gathered to hope at these times. In 2002 he was predeceased in death by his wife of over 40 years, LouVena Wood. He then focused his life on his church, his family and his friends, keeping himself busy with work, farming and ranching. Jacks family grew over the years, he had 4 grandchildren, Katie Neufeld, Jackie Neufeld, Brandden Shandler and Tyrel Hayes, that he adored, and it was reciprocated. Nothing was better than spending time and getting advice from Grandpa Jack. His advice was valued, and every moment spent with him was a blessing to all Jack loved his friends and was happy when they stopped in to visit. He missed the days when people dropped in unannounced and appreciated those who did stop to visit. Jack was happy to celebrate his 90th birthday with his family and friends in October 2019. This was one of the last gathering of family and friends, and he was so happy. A private family interrment was held on April 28, 2020 at the Tuscoola Mountain Cemetary.
