Obituary of Ed Koecher

With deep sorrow and profound grief, we announce the passing of Ed Koecher a long-time resident of Chetwynd BC. Early in the morning of June 12,2020 Ed endured a heart attack, he was immediately driven to the Dawson Creek Hospital. Ed unfortunately suffered another heart attack in the hospital of which he did not survive. Ed was at the ripe age of sixty years. Edwin Koecher was born in Hythe, Alberta to Joyce (Rule) and Herb Koecher on January 13,1960. Ed grew up on his familys farm in Gundy just east of where he attended school in Dawson Creek. Ed was the second youngest of seven children, but that did not mean he went unnoticed. Without a doubt Eddie was the comedian of the family. Eddie spent his youth wreaking havoc with his brothers and his mind occupied by motorcycles. When Ed was thirteen his mother passed from a heart attack. Ed only spent another four or so years at the farm before he was out on his own and making the most of it. Ed spent some time working in the oilfield to fund his many, many motorcycle trips. Ed could reel you in with stories driving down the west coast swerving through and through huge redwoods. He lived carefree napping in ditches and blazing down the road. Ed started working in the forest industry in 1980, he commuted from Dawson Creek for a year until making the move to plant roots in Chetwynd. On September 15 1984, at the age of 24 Eds first son Luke was born. During Eds second marriage he was blessed with two incredible children. Another son, Colby, and his daughter Kristin. When Colby and Kristin were quite young Ed and their mother Sandy (Peters) divorced and Ed became a single father. Despite his love for freedom, Ed quickly matured and became the father he was destined to be. Ed became a millwright in 1992 shortly after his daughter was born. Ed was a single father for seven years until he met his partner Pam, through family friends in 2001. Pam had two daughters of her own Bailey and Allyssa, who were welcomed with open arms. From then on Ed was still the comedian of the family but also the glue that connected everyone. During the years raising a young family of four kids Ed would take the family on memorable camping trips, fishing trips or just a drive to check out a new spot. The memories created with him were a quality rather than quantity. Ed was a loyal and committed employee, he would work long hours and help out whenever he could. As the years went Ed climbed the ladder to the top where he'd be able to reap the rewards of his labour. He became the highest seniority millwright and could sit back and relax a little now. Ed served the forest industry for forty years and had the aches and pains to prove it. But that never stopped him from showing up for his friends and family. You could count on Ed for a sarcastic comment, a laugh, or a helping hand. Some of Eds greatest attributes were that he was reliable, true to himself and generous with his time and resources. Ed Was predeceased by his parents, Joyce (Rule) and Herb Koecher. Survived by his siblings, Sybel, Carl, Herb, Roland, Crystal and younger brother Tony. And forever and always deeply missed by his children Luke, Colby, Kristin, Bailey, Allyssa and grandchildren Dominic and Jocelyn, his partner Pam and his life long friends. Ed Believed he would be given a new body in Heaven that knew no pain. Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28 With respect to Eds wishes there will be no formal funeral service.
