Obituary of Joe Brass

It is with heavy hearts we annouce the passing of Joseph "Joe" Brass, resident of Dawson Creek, British Columbia, on Monday, August 17, 2020 at the age of 65 years. Due to COVID restrictions, a memorial service will be held by privately, and a live stream will be made available on Thursday, August 27, 2020 at 11:00am. Joseph Brass was a member of Key First nation, in Saskatchewan where he was born 65 years ago. Joe was larger than life, he was honest as the day is long and had an innocence about him. A devout Mormon, he was generous to a fault, he gave away his last 20 dollars if there was a need. He was blessed by God and was never without money. His faith carried him through all the trials and struggles that he had to go through during his life. He was a great friend and this doesnt say it all. In time of need Joe was always there. Whether it was a need for prayer, for friendship, for money and always had a great sense of humor with a laugh as big as the great outdoors. Joe loved music throughout his whole life. He loved his guitar and played for the community and friends. His friends loved his singing and playing, it filled his audience with comfort and joy. Good morning! Joe would call to everyone who past his doorstep and those he met in the street. He always smiled and added Have a great day, God bless you! Joe was very proud of being a twin to his brother John. Joe always introduced John as his twin. They remained devoted to each other throughout their lives. Not always eye to eye, but always heart to heart. John and Joe lived in the Dawson Creek area and at the age of seven they went to live in a very loving home at the Waltons. In 1967 they moved out to East Pine Farm with Dana Walton. Joe had a palomino horse named Trigger that he was proud of. Joe loved watching Roy Rogers shows with his horse Trigger. There was many activities growing up on the farm such as gathering firewood, planting gardens, working the land, sowing grain fields, and then there was skidooing in the winter. Joes greatest love was fishing and hunting. He would say to me When are we going to Sukunka? We used to have a bet going on; Who got the first fish, the biggest fish and the most fish? Many a time Joe would get joking around and tease me that he would catch the biggest! It never failed, Harry caught the BIG one. Joe had so much patience he would sit down in the water and literally fish for hours and not move until he caught one. I think the fish are the only ones that arent going to miss him. Joe marveled at creation, he would always lookup in the sky and see glory. He had a deep reverence for the wonder and beauty in the world. Joe had a beautiful relationship with the Lord and he had a very powerful testimony of God and Jesus Christ. Everyone felt this glory radiating from Joe. This amazing quality uplifted everyone who came in contact with him. His Book of Mormon was his guiding light that he shared with all. The Book of Mormon was not just words on a page to Joe, he lived it, he believed it. There will be a huge void in Dawson Creek. The presence of Joe will be missed throughout the city that he called home. Very Respectfully Reynars Funeral Home & Crematorium
