Obituary of Jack Evan Lowe

Jack Evan Lowe   August 20, 1930 - March 29, 2024

It is with great sadness we relay the news of our husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Jack Lowe’s passing on Friday, March 29, 2024, at the Dawson Creek District Hospital, at the age of 93 years.

Jack was born in Bonanza, Alberta to Jack Lowe Sr and Lily Lowe (Deighton). He and his only sibling, Kathleen Mary (Kay) grew up on the farm which Jack later took over from his dad.

Before becoming a full-time farmer, Jack was a long-haul trucker which became a passion, and in later years always enjoyed reminiscing with his old trucker buddies.

He married Dorothy Gamble on March 10, 1956, at South Peace United Church. They lived in Dawson Creek while Jack drove trucks for Canadian Freightways, Loiselle Trucking, and Linden Transport to name a few.

Jack and Dorothy raised their four girls, Cindy, Sherry, Wendy, and Darla in Dawson Creek until moving to Bonanza in 1968. Jack farmed and in later years drove for Novitsky Trucking.

Jack believed in serving his community and chaired several boards including Central Peace Gas Co-op, Agricultural Service Board and sat on other boards his last being the South Peace Seniors Association.

Jack and Dorothy became snowbirds in 1987 travelling to Yuma for 3 or 4 months each winter where they enjoyed meeting new people.

In 2002, Jack and Dorothy retired to Dawson Creek, joining the Senior’s Center where they participated in floor curling and took part in various other events. In later years Jack enjoyed coffee at McDonald’s with friends, drives in the country, and golfing with friends.

In 2019, Jack became a resident at Rotary Manor where he always enjoyed the music afternoons and especially visits with Dorothy.

Jack was predeceased by his parents Jack and Lily Lowe; sister Kathleen (Kay) Hutton and son-in-law Barry Hollis.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Dorothy; daughters Cindy (Gerard Vaillancourt) of Edmonton, Sherry Hollis of Calgary, Wendy of Mississauga, Darla (Bob Scobel) of Calgary; grandchildren Zack Hollis, Josie Hollis, Rob Scobel, Jack Scobel, and great-grandson Silas Hollis as well as many extended family and friends.

A Funeral Service for Jack will be held at Reynars Funeral Chapel on Thursday, April 4, 2024, at 1:00 pm.  Jack's daughter Wendy Lowe will officiate.  Interment will be at a later date.

For friends so wishing, donations may be made in memory of Jack to the Rotary Manor Care Facility, 1121-90 Avenue, Dawson Creek, British Columbia V1G 5A3, or the Senior Citizens Hall, 1101 McKellar Ave, Dawson Creek, BC, V1G 2S2.
