Obituary of Martha Marie Ziegeman

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Martha Ziegeman, a longtime resident of Dawson Creek, British Columbia, on Sunday, March 17, 2024, at the age of 91 years.

Martha was born on June 14, 1932, in Cadillac, Saskatchewan. She had a happy childhood, playing and doing chores on the farm with her parents and siblings. She met Irvin Ziegeman in the sanatorium in Prince Alberte where she was employed, and he was a Tuberculosis patient. They married in 1957 and made their way west to Dawson Creek, BC, where Mona was born in 1958. They ventured further north from there, 6 months later to the Yukon where they welcomed their son Darryl in 1961, and another daughter Landra in 1965. The family moved south in 1966 to reside in Fort St. John and Taylor for many years. After raising their family, Martha and Irvin took off on an adventure to Granisle, BC where they lived for a few years before they Settled in Tumbler Ridge, BC. They lived there until 2021 until they both moved to Rotary Manor in Dawson Creek. Martha lived there until her passing.

Martha and Irvin both loved the outdoors and nature. They adventured all around BC, the Yukon and beyond, trips to Hawaii, Haida Gwaii, The Turks and Caicos, where Darryl lived for a time. Martha was an avid curler and enjoyed the sport both in the Yukon and Fort St. John. In later years, she enjoyed watching the Scotties and the Brier on TV, as well as the NHL, where she would cheer on her favourite team – The Vancouver Canucks.

Martha hosted many holiday dinners where family and friends would gather and enjoy the company and feast. She loved the family get-togethers, whether it be holiday gatherings or a camping trip; of which there were many.

Martha was predeceased by beloved husband Irvin Ziegeman; parents Eugene and Marie Lagoutte; siblings Hubert Lagoutte, Andre Bourassa, Paulette Straf, Gabrielle Robin Verbonek, Jacqueline Mezzo; grandson Grayson Gould; daughter Landra Blanchette.

Martha left to mourn her children Mona (Larry), son Darryl; son in law Jim; grandchildren Jasta Dickson (Scott), Teela Gould, Telsa McRae (Arlee), Jorey Ziegeman, Dawson Blanchette; great grandchildren Tyla, Kian, Krew, Sydney, Maddox, Taysen and Huntley; siblings Roland Lagoutte (Stella), Jeannette Budan (Alex); as well as many nieces and nephews.

Martha will be dearly missed. She lives on in our hearts and our memories, may she now rest in peace.

A Celebration Of Life for Martha will be held at a later date.

For friends so wishing, donations may be made in memory of Martha to the Parkinson Society of British Columbia, 600 - 890 W. Pender Street, Vancouver, British Columbia V6C 1J9.
