Blake Armstrong

Obituary of Blake Ind Armstrong

Blake Ind “Bud” Armstrong

October 6, 1932 ~ October 20, 2023

Bud was born to Thomas and Maxine Armstrong in Elnora, AB.  He was the oldest of 7 children and became the man of the house at the early age of 11 when his father passed away.  He quickly learned how to provide for his family.  He did odd jobs in the community and joined the Navy at 17 to help his mother.

When Bud left the Navy he moved to Dawson Creek, BC where he met his future bride, Joyce McKellar.  They were married on October 10, 1955, and had 3 children, Brenda, Lori and Blake to complete their family.

Bud worked as a roofer, truck driver, and had a lasting career with CNT/NWT from April 1961 to July 1993.

Bud loved dancing, hockey, camping, carpentry, floor curling, woodworking, skiing and travelling.  He volunteered his time reffing hockey, was a lifelong member of the Legion, and an active member of the D.C. Seniors Hall including many years as President.  His woodworking skills made their way into many, many households.

Bud’s family continued to grow to include his children Brenda (Russell) Radke, Lori (Gord) Rutherford, Blake (Leslie) Armstrong; grandchildren Erin (Oran) Radke-Hall, Tyler Radke (and parrot George), Devan (Dallas) Tuer, Carleigh (Geoff) Parrell, Lane (Meranda St Jean) Armstrong; great grandchildren Quinn Hall, Nora Tuer, Miles Tuer, and Morris Parrell.

Bud and Joyce celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in October of 2005, sadly Joyce passed away in January 2006.

Bud never thought he would find love again, but he met and married Anne Hall in February 2008.  His family expanded again with Shannon and Blaine Stewart and family, Dean and Vivian Hall and family.  They had many years together until Anne passed away in October 2013.

Lucky in love, Bud found a companion and true friend in Irene Isaak.  They spent many happy years dancing, playing cards, floor curling and being together.

Bud is survived by his children and their families; his siblings Rita Clare, Gary (Gina) Armstrong, Bill (Patt) Armstrong, Judy Goodkey, Janet Gregor; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Bud was an outstanding member of the community and will be greatly missed.

Buds family wishes to invite you to a Celebration of Life for him that will be held at the Dawson Creek Seniors Hall on Saturday, April 27, 2024 at 2:00 pm.

For friends so wishing, donations may be made in memory of Bud to the Canadian Cancer Society, 565 West 10 Avenue, Vancouver British Columbia V5Z 4J4 or to the Dawson Creek Senior Citizens Hall, 1101 McKellar Ave, Dawson Creek, BC V1G 2S2.
