Obituary of JR Weaver

JR was born in Northumberland County, New Brunswick on December 23rd, 1944 to Hartley and Christine Weaver. JR is the oldest of 6 children, 4 brothers, Eugene, Rick, Allan, Laurie and one sister, Brenda. JR found his way to Mackenzie, BC in 1974. While driving truck from Mackenzie to Prince George, he happened to stop at McLeod Lake and met Kathy. It was love at first sight. JR and Kathy were married in 1976 and moved to Chetwynd to be closer to Kathy's family. In 1978, JR began driving logging truck for Len, Kathy's dad. Kathy's family soon became JR's. Len and Ursula were always there to lend a supportive hand. JR had such and easy-going way about him. At family gatherings, he would have everyone smiling and laughing at his stories and jokes. In 1978 Troy was born, he was the first son for Kathy and JR and the first grandson on both sides. In 1981 Kristal came along and she instantly wrapped her daddy's heart around her finger. JR's family was the most important thing in the world to him. He loved spending time at home with them, or going for drives and teaching the kids everything he knew about hunting, fishing and the outdoors. JR loved country music and could tell you the name of the song, as well as the artist and some little tidbit about them. In 2005, JR was diagnosed with cancer. In 2006 JR underwent surgery and in May of that year the family got the news that he was cancer free, the next day JR was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. This was the start of some very hard times for the family, but in JR's style, he kept a smile on his face and never once complained. He was often heard telling his family "you have to play the hand you are dealt". In the spring of 2007, Kathy and JR sold their home, bought a motor home and headed back to the east coast for one last visit. JR loved seeing all his old buddies and spending time with his sister. JR was the happiest when the kids joined them on their trip. JR was able to show them the old homestead and told them many stories of growing up along the famous Miramichi River. After this trip, JR's health declined very quickly. They were able to find a room at Rotary Manor in Dawson Creek and JR was so fortunate to have the great staff there that treated him with dignity and kindness. JR will be remembered as a gentle man with a ready smile and a joke to share. A private family interment was held on September 13th, 2008 at 11:00 am at the Tuscoola Mountain Cemetery, Chetywnd, B.C. A Celebration of JR's life was held on September 13th, 2008 at 2:00pm at the Legion Hall in Chetwynd, B.C. Very Respectfully, Reynars Funeral Home & Crematorium.
