Obituary of Linda Ferguson

Throughout my lifetime, I have never seen such strength, wisdom, and courage as I have witnessed through my mother. I think of a time when mom would bake in the kitchen when we lived on the farm back in Alberta.Mom would take us into the garden with her on a warm sunny day and let my sisters and I play all around her. She didn't even seem to care if we weren't helping. She just took comfort in knowing that we were there. She tried to make me understand that family came first and that nothing else mattered. I remember the time when she first found out she had diabetes and went to Edmonton for a diabetes information clinic. I remember how apprehensive and scared she was going there. Yet, she went through with it knowing that the disease would change her life forever. In 2001, mom suffered a severe stroke. We were told that she would never have the use of her left side again and that she would probably never be able to walk. We were in shock. That's when I learned exactly what strength, courage and wisdom my mother had. Every twist and turn, although afraid, she fought against the doom and gloom outlook. Then, in this last year of her life, she began to feel more tired than usual. The fight wasn't as strong. She missed her father and sister, who had passed away in 2002, terribly. My sister and I knew in October of last year, when mom was told her leg may be amputated due to infection, that it would be her last Christmas ever. With a lump in our throats and burning in our hearts, we decided to make it the best Christmas ever for her. We sang to Christmas songs and played the guitar. We were a family.
